What is PolyTracing Studio?
PolyTracing Studio is a Windows desktop application that converts image pixels into named, editable and measurable geometry. It combines manual and assisted tracing, annotation, metrology, perspective correction, CAD and dataset export, Golden Template inspection, GD&T, SPC, and audit-ready evidence.
Does the software require an internet connection or external AI service?
No external AI service is required for the documented tracing, Smart Boundary, object discovery, geometry recognition, inspection, SPC, reporting, or evidence workflows. The application is designed for local desktop operation.
Which source images can I open?
The standard image workflow supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, and BMP. The Demo limits images to 2,500 × 2,500 pixels; the Full edition is intended for production-resolution work subject to available system resources.
What is the difference between a Class and a Layer?
A Class is a semantic label: what the object means, with a stable ID, color, and naming pattern. A Layer controls organization, stacking, visibility, and locking. They are deliberately independent so the visual structure of a document does not redefine dataset semantics.
How does Smart Boundary work?
Draw a rough closed guide around an object. The assistant learns nearby foreground and background colors, isolates the connected component, and proposes a simplified boundary. You can add foreground/background hints, review confidence and overlap, optionally convert an accurate fit to engineering geometry, then explicitly accept or reject it.
Can automated changes overwrite my work?
Automated analysis is staged and non-destructive. Workspace Auto-Annotation writes only explicitly reviewed decisions, uses atomic state writes and backups, rejects stale state, and can restore eligible transactions through the Change Center without overwriting newer work.
What is Inspection Twin?
Inspection Twin captures calibrated geometry from a known-good drawing as a Golden Template, aligns current geometry to it, and evaluates dimensions, position, boundary deviation, missing features, and extra features against global or per-measurement tolerances.
Which GD&T controls are included?
The current basic GD&T workflow supports Datum features plus Position, Profile, Orientation, and Circularity controls. Datum anchors can drive alignment; otherwise the legacy center-based alignment remains available.
What does the SPC dashboard calculate?
It groups numeric inspection measurements by feature, occurrence, and metric, then calculates mean, sample standard deviation, three-sigma control limits, specification limits, Cp/Cpk, and deterministic outside-limit, six-point-trend, and eight-on-one-side rules.
What can the Full edition export?
Production output includes CSV and Drawing JSON, LabelMe, Pascal VOC, COCO, YOLO, SVG, DXF/CAD, masks, full-resolution canvas images, multi-format batch export, inspection JSON/CSV/PDF, SPC data, audit records, evidence manifests, and MES/QMS exchange files.
Are older project files supported?
Supported older schemas are migrated in memory. The original is unchanged until you save; before the first rewrite, an adjacent .pre-vN.bak copy is created. Newer unsupported schemas are rejected, while unknown fields trigger read-only protection.
What is stored in a project?
A .polyproj can embed the processed image, shapes and holes, Classes, Layers, calibration, visibility, engineering metadata, Inspection Twin settings, and supported extensions. It is the portable backup of the working document; exports are not a substitute.
Can I evaluate the application before choosing the Full edition?
Yes. The Demo contains the current drawing tools, transforms, node editor, quality control, Loupe, measurement tools, and quota-limited advanced operations. It saves upgrade-compatible .polydemo projects and provides watermarked viewport snapshots.
What operating system is supported?
The current release is built for Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit and uses a per-user installation model.
Why does Windows show “Unknown publisher”?
The current PolyTracing Studio installer does not yet carry a public Microsoft Authenticode certificate. That status alone does not establish whether a file is safe or harmful; confirm that it came from polytracing.com over HTTPS and that its SHA-256 matches the published release value. Access to international code-signing providers can be legally or practically limited for developers resident in some jurisdictions. The plan is to sign future releases when lawful and practical access becomes available.
Is PolyTracing Studio safe to install?
Each published Demo is built from the reviewed source, installed, smoke-tested, cleanly uninstalled, and matched to its release manifest before delivery. No software should be described as risk-free: use only the official download, verify SHA-256, keep Windows security enabled, and stop if the file identity does not match.
How can I verify the downloaded installer?
Confirm the filename is PolyTracingStudioDemo-2.2.0-Setup.exe, then calculate its SHA-256 with PowerShell and compare all 64 hexadecimal characters with the checksum on the Demo and Installation Security pages.
Should I disable Windows Defender or SmartScreen?
No. Do not permanently disable Microsoft Defender, SmartScreen, or another antivirus product. If SmartScreen appears, first verify the official source and SHA-256, select More info, review the application details, and choose Run anyway only when those checks match.
Where should I download official PolyTracing Studio releases?
Only through https://polytracing.com/. Demo installers are delivered by a private, time-limited link generated by the official site. Do not rely on third-party mirrors or repackaged installers.
Is the installer digitally signed?
No. Release 2.2.0 is not currently signed with a public Authenticode certificate and must not be presented as a Verified Publisher release. Its official filename, byte size, and SHA-256 are published so the downloaded bytes can be checked independently.
